Francis Henderson

FAIRMONT — Francis Uriah Henderson, 81, of Glady Creek, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday (July 5, 2014) at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, after a short illness. He was born April 12, 1933, in Fairmont, a son of the late William Denzel and Opal Stella Vincent Henderson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruth J. Phillips Henderson, on July 20, 2008.

Francis was a member of the Grafton Wesleyan Holiness Church. He retired in 1995 from S.M. Kisner, where he served as a driver and ran the maintenance of the trucks. He had previously driven for Strohmen Bread Company and had 21 years with Dan Dee Potato Chip Company. Francis enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was such a miraculous man. He had such a compassionate, golden and giving heart. He was a visible expression of God’s unconditional love. Francis was a true disciple of Christ, always looking to give to others. He was full of gentle words and deeds. He took such joy in raising his garden, if for nothing else than to give his produce away to others. He enjoyed raising his honeybees and selling his produce. He was a wonderful example and teacher to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed for days to come, but joy comes in knowing the eternal peace and joy he has now and for evermore.

He leaves behind four children and their spouses, Roger and (Kay) of Kingwood, Linda and (Jim) of Fairmont, Dale and (Carolyn) of Monumental, and Becky and (Paul) of High Point, North Carolina; a brother, Stephen Henderson of Florida; a sister, Catherine Neel of Fairmont; as well as sisters-in-law, Beverly Henderson of Glady Creek and Helen Phillips of Tunnelton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Denzel Henderson, Wesley Henderson Jr., Franklin Henderson, Lonnie Henderson and Davidson Henderson; his sisters, Mary Henderson and Ida May Linn; and his grandson, Bradley Slaughter.

Friends and family may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, today from 2-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Maley officiating. Interment will follow at the Glady Creek Cemetery, Fairmont. Online condolences may be made to www.fordfunealhomes.com.
