David Tennant

David Andrew Tennant, 73, is in the presence of God; Dave’s spirit passed peacefully while with his family on Wednesday (March 20, 2013). Dave’s “what a wonderful world” outlook and determination to live life to the fullest was truly an inspiration to our family and friends.

Dave was an extraordinary man with kindness to all. Perhaps you ran into him and Ginny from time to time at his local hangout, “The Cracker Barrel.”

With love always in his heart, people were always his passion. Those people started out with the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny” Coen Tennant. The fire between these two never diminished throughout their 53 years together; even the day before his passing passionate kisses were shared; soul mates for all eternity.

At the age of 21 his life was changed forever when he held his first daughter, Tammy Trina Tennant, with love and compassion.

It began his journey in life. Family values were taught to him from his late father and beloved mother, Andy and Audie Tennant. At the age of 25 with his last chance for a son, a daughter was born, Tonya Renee, married to Courtland Joseph Helbig.

Dave was a true American and served his country in the United States Army, where he worked as a mechanic on helicopters, which prepared him for many years of service to Peabody Coal Mine Federal No. 2 as a master mechanic. This secured his foundation for the care of his family.

Family was the most important value in Dave’s life. With humor, good wisdom and most importantly LOVE, Dave was more than a leader. His strong voice and loud laugh carried with family through many blessed holidays. There was never a dull moment, for Dave was the biggest kid of all!

His grandchildren were the love of his life. Each one in their own unique way felt a bond that will forever be unbroken: Clay “The Bucket” Andrew Fluharty, wife Katie and son Ikie Lane; Chelsea “Girlfriend” LaDawn Fluharty and daughter Amelia “Mia” Madeline Fluharty; Dustin “The Buster” Levi Armstrong; Caitlin “Cait Miester” Capri Fluharty.

After retirement at the age of 55 Dave began another journey: he became a pastor. If that wasn’t enough, he started back full time after only three months of retirement for a wonderful company, Francis Enterprise. Even though Dave struggled with his eyesight that never stopped him. Why? Francis provided a 36-inch TV screen for his computer.

If he wasn’t picking up someone’s check at dinner, he was trying to give guidance to hearts that were lost, sad or just needing love. No matter what troubles one was facing, when Dave smiled, so did you! If you were blessed enough to know this man, your life was forever changed.

He will be missed forever by friends and family he loved the most. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Lou Lemley, Bob Tennant, Becky Steele and her husband Gary, and Dianne Hunnell and her husband Chuck.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Andy and Audie Tennant; his sister, Carol Thomas; a sister-in-law, Rose Tennant; and two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Thomas and Eugene Lemley.

Friends may show respect to a great man at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason Dixon Highway, Blacksville, from 2-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the Jakes Run Assembly of God Church, 1790 Jakes Run Road, Fairview, at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Rob Bennett officiating. A private entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
