Mary Weis

Mary Lois Price Weis was released from the bonds of this life on Tuesday (March 26, 2013).

She was born in Wadestown, on May 2, 1925. Her parents were the late Lando F. Price and Bessie Byrd Robinson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Weis, in 2007, and an infant sister, Ruth Price.

She is survived by her two daughters, Christy Matheny (and husband Mark) of Morgantown, and Nancy Dunn (and husband Bob) of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Bobby Dunn (and wife Rachel), Tara Matheny Helmick (and husband Aaron), Brian Dunn (and wife Amber) and Josh Matheny; three great-grandchildren, Alison Dunn, Samuel Dunn and Andrew Helmick; her sister, Frances Price Doerschner (and husband Bob) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and nephew, Rob Doerschner of Alexandria, Va.

In addition to being devoted to her family throughout her life, she attended West Virginia University, earning a bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1946. She worked for Harrison County as a home extension agent and in Marion County as a home economics teacher at Monongah High School from 1949 to 1959.

A breast cancer survivor, Mary was active in the Reach to Recovery program in Marion County.

A lifelong Christian, she was an active member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church for many years. She served as its treasurer for 27 years, was active in the Mary Circle, coordinated vacation Bible school when her children were young and also enjoyed singing in the choir up until January of this year.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed painting and sketching, took a class in leather-working and loved gardening and sewing. She and Sam enjoyed flying and boating and loved to travel. In her later years, she loved reading, visiting with her grandchildren, attending chuch, choir practice and circle meetings and listening to music. She and Sam were devoted grandparents.

Although she will be greatly missed, her family is thankful for the long, happy life that she lived. She has been a great example to follow in maintaining her positive, practice attitude despite life’s hurdles.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice Care Corporation which provided outstanding care and support to Mary and her family, Highland Avenue United Methodist Church or a charity of your choosing.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Jonathan Smith officiating. The commital service will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
