William Delligatti

William “Billy-Tom” Anthony Delligatti, 66, of Citrus Springs, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Seven Rivers Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1946, in Fairmont, son of the late Anthony “Cotton” and Mary Zinn Delligatti.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Osborne Delligatti of Fairmont; his three sons, William A. Delligatti Jr. and wife Stacy of Sturbridge, Mass., Jerry A. Delligatti, and James F. “Jimmy” Delligatti and wife Crystal of Fairmont; and stepdaughter, Wendy Cutlip.

He also leaves behind a pride of grandchildren who were his joy, Adellica, Chantelle, William and Dominic Delligatti, Mercedes and Lexus Glaspell, Adam Delligatti, Amanda and AJ Delligatti, and step-grandchildren CJ Moore and Carly Fisher. And he will be missed by his beloved poodle, Jean-Pierre.

He is survived by brothers and sisters, Anthony “Skip” and Linda Delligatti, Mike and Martha Delligatti, and Becky Williams, all of Fairmont, and Betsy and Carl Rutherford of Logan, Ohio; sister-in-law, Athlene Delligatti of Gahanna, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by sister Toni Wood and brother Bobby Delligatti.

Bill was an avid golfer. He also loved his music, enjoyed boating, tennis and computers, and was a master trivia buff. He was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. He loved to cook, and every Sunday one could find the smell of his delicious spaghetti sauce permeating the house.

He truly had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Keibo Club.

He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy aboard the USS Fred T. Berry and in the Merchant Marines. He was retired from the trucking industry.

In recognition of Bill’s military service, a brief, impromptu but touching ceremony was conducted in the living room of their Florida home. With only a few family members present and a local handyman working at the home at the time who was a Gulf War veteran and asked to participate in this tradition for his fellow, but unknown comrade, the funeral director, on “behalf of a grateful nation and the United States Navy as a token of appreciation for your husband … father … and brother’s honorable and faithful service ...” presented to Bill’s wife, the American flag as the veteran stood at salute. After holding it for a few moments and brushing her fallen tears off its blue stars, she in turn gave the flag to his youngest son, Jimmy.

In honor of Bill’s military service, Mrs. Delligatti requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project for those so inclined.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes there will be no service. Hooper Funeral Home of Beverly Hills, Fla., will oversee his cremation.
