Carl Murray Jr.

On April 22, 1942, Carl O. Murray Jr. was born in the upstairs of the Hauge house on W.Va. 73 toward Boothsville, where he lived until April 17, 1945. His family then moved to what is now Rock Union Road, which has been his home ever since. Carl was the only son of the late Carl O. and Bessie McElfresh Murray.

Carl was Protestant by faith and was affiliated with Boothsville Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Grafton High School. He was a former member of the FFA organization. He was truly a farmer at heart. He worked for Southern States for 35 1/2 years and could answer any question that had anything to do with farming. He was a strong man who was happiest when he was working his farm. He truly enjoyed hard work, putting up hay, caring for his cattle and working his garden. He even enjoyed reading westerns.

Mr. Murray is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Avis A. Heck Murray; his son and daughter-in-law, John Carl and Jenny Murray of Bridgeport; his granddaughter, Audra Murray; grandson, Orian Post; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Irene Burnsworth of Virginia Beach, and Linda and Robert Reed of Grafton; two brothers-in-law, Leon Heck and his wife Myrtle of New Martinsville, and Gordon Heck of East New Market, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Langley and husband Harold of Evans, Colo., and Evelyn Heck of Fairmont; and very special friends, the Elsey brothers, the Knight family and Helen Reese.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers-in-law, Viola and Doyl Cain and Enoch Burnsworth; and in-laws, Marie Heck, George Heck, Arthur Heck and Catherine and Paul Bishop.

Carl wanted to acknowledge Dr. Govind Patel and staff, Dr. Paul Alapat and staff, Dr. John Azar and staff and Amedysis Hospice for all their love, support and care over the years. He also suggested that memorial contributions be made to Boothsville Baptist Church, Route 7 Box 302, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Friends may call at Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. Services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m.Thursday with the Rev. Orville Wright and the Rev. Jerry Nuzum officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
