Clifton Lewis

Clifton Lee Lewis, 71, of Woodstock, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2013), at Greenfield Senior Living in Woodstock.

Mr. Lewis was born Nov. 4, 1942, in Winchester, son of the late Hetzel Lewis and Jean Truban Lewis. He was a 1961 graduate of Handley High School. He also attended Virginia Tech. He graduated from Bob Jones University with a ministerial degree.

He was an industrial manager at Crown, Cork and Seal. In 1981, he founded Marion Independent Baptist Church in Rivesville. He pastored Grace Baptist Church in Woodstock until his retirement. He was instrumental in starting the Mt. Jackson Independent Baptist Church, where he was a member. He loved his Lord, his family, his country and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Bunney Lewis of 47 years; two daughters, Sunny Dawn Fetty and husband Daran, and Misty Autumn Lewis; a sister, Cindy Gallo; a brother, Charles Lewis; six grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Marion Independent Baptist Church in Rivesville. Pastor Bill Toothman will officiate. Family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marion Independent Baptist Church.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
