Robert Starkey

Robert Eugene Starkey, 74, of Mannington, passed away Friday (Nov. 29, 2013), at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Princeton, son of the late Marvin Carl Starkey and Edith Kendall Starkey.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elsie Lorraine Hayhurst Starkey, who died Sept. 22, 2012.

He leaves to cherish his memory three children, son Simon “Sam” Starkey and wife Dawney of Sanford N.C., daughter Tina Starkey Chicarelli of Fairmont, and son Robert “Rob” Starkey and wife Julia of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Darrell Dallas Starkey of Elyria, Ohio, and Barry Leon Starkey of Lorain, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mandy Minger, Joshua Chicarelli, Crystal Starkey and Jessica Williams; and four great-grandchildren, Aren Minger, Hailey Minger, Mariska Barker and Leila Williams.

He worked many years at EIMCO in Fairmont as a welder, before moving to D&G Machine in Mannington, where he retired.

There will be no public visitation or funeral service.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rymer Cemetery, with Pastor Harry Holbert officiating.

Arrangements by Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St. Mannington.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
