Mary V. Nicholson

Mary V. Nicholson, 78, of Katy Lane, Fairmont, returned to her Heavenly Father early Saturday morning at her residence. She was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Fairmont, daughter of the late John and Julia Kosic Drengasc and step-daughter of Willie Tedesco.

Mary lived most of her life in Fairmont, working at Westinghouse Corp. and later for the Marion County school system for 15 years. Everyone knew Mary as a hard worker, always giving more than expected. She enjoyed keeping a lovely home for herself and Albert.

She also was an excellent cook, known for her stuffed peppers, spaghetti and meatballs. She was so proud of her family and kept many photographs displayed throughout the home. A natural comedienne, she was the life of any get-together. Her favorite hobbies were going to the flea market and playing cards. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Nicholson of Fairmont; a daughter, Patricia Vilone Powers and her husband Olin Powers of Fredonia, Ariz.; a son, John Vilone and close friend Sherry Merrill of Barrackville; nine grandchildren, Tracie Rorque Wood of Caldwell, Idaho, Julia and Dave Wood of Spanish Fork, Utah, Matthew and Kristina Mecham of Hurricane, Utah, John P. Vilone of Fairmont, Natalie Clayton of Salt Lake, Utah, Jodi Vilone of Wilmington, N.C., Andrew Mecham of Hurricane, Utah, Gabrielle Mecham, currently stationed in Iraq with the U.S. Navy, and Philip Vilone Mecham of Hurricane, Utah; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-uncle, James and his wife Pat Kosik of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Josephine Findo and her children Louis and Jeff Findo, all of Fairmont.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Philip Vilone, and a son, Philip Vilone Jr.

Friends may call at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home today at 1 p.m. with Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
