Roger Channel Sr.

Roger Lee Channel Sr., 58, of Morgan Ridge, died on Thursday (April 5, 2007) at his home.

He was born in Marion County on July 10, 1948, a son of the late Argle Dayton Channell and Ruth Leota Simmons Channel.

Roger graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1966. He served with the United States Air Force for four years as a jet engine mechanic, reaching the grade of staff sergeant. He was presently employed at Noveles Corp. as a millwright and roll grinder. He had worked at Alcan/Noveles for 35 years.

Roger enjoyed restoring antique cars and trucks. He loved playing the guitar and country music at Sagebrush Roundup. He was one of the organizers of the Winfield District Music Association which later became part of the Sagebrush Roundup.

He loved his family and his pups, Rowdy and Piper.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Lou Glover Channell, the couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on March 31; a son, Roger Lee Channell Jr. and his wife Amanda Jo of Morgan Ridge; a very special grandson, Tristin Seay Channell; a brother, Arval Dayton Channell and his wife Barbara Jean of Williams Crossroads; a sister, Sheila Ann Hawkins and her husband W. Terry of Bentons Ferry; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Hilda Phares of Fairmont, Denzil Dayton of Fairmont, Leroy Ross of Masontown, Walter and Diane Brown of Tallmadge, Ohio; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Josephine Ross, Olive Dayton and Richard Phares.

Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Harley Mayfield officiating. Flag folding rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the local Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
