She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Kingmont, daughter of the late Evert and Lillie (Jarrett) Kemble.

“Some called her Catherine, few called her Aunt, four called her Grandma, many called her Granny, but we are the privileged three that called her Mom.”

She is survived by three daughters, Julia Travis and husband Fred of Bridgeport, Linda Poling and her late husband Bill Poling of Fairmont, and Becky Blair and husband Dave of Monongah; two brothers, Harlow Kemble of Fairmont and Leroy Kemble and wife Pat of California; four grandchildren, Stephen Poling and wife Lisa, Julie Coyle and husband David, Tisha Rhoades and husband Chad, and Davey Blair and wife Ashley; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Poling, Mycha Kalar and husband Brian, Joshua Coyle and wife Courtney, Emily Coyle, Brittany Rhoades, Bryce Rhoades, Gavin Blair and Easton Blair; one great-great-grandchild, Penelope Coyle; and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cunningham, Betty Moore and Dorothy Thompson.

Catherine also inherited four children with her second marriage to Calvin Ferguson, Helen Hardesty, Don Ferguson (deceased), Doris Shaw and Paul Ferguson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Nichols; her second husband, Calvin Ray Ferguson; a brother, Elmo Kemble; and a son-in-law, William “Bill” Poling.

Catherine was the oldest member of Trinity Assembly of God Church, having joined in 1961, where she held many positions. She attended LPN school in 1967 after which she joined the staff at Fairmont General Hospital and stayed until her retirement in 1984.

The family would like to thank Fazio Elder Care for the special care they provided for Catherine. They would also like to thank Amedysis Hospice Care and their lifelong friends at Domico Funeral Home.

Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. today, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating, and also a walk down memory lane will be provided by grandsons Stephen Poling and Davey Blair. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Condolences may be sent to the family online at

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
