Maj. (retired) Albert Daniel Howell, 91, of Ravenswood, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2012) in Camden-Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg.
He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Spencer, a son of the late Dr. William Herbert and Beulah (White) Howell. His brother, Dr. William H. Howell Jr.; a sister, Rose Arbogast; and a grandson, Corbin D. O’Brien also preceded him in death.
He was raised in Morgantown and attended Staunton Military Academy and the University of Virginia before joining the United States Army in 1942. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, before retiring with more than 24 years of military service. Between enlistments, he graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in international law. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his daughters, Coleen (Jim) Casto of Fairmont, Cindy (Kevin) O’Brien of Sykesville, Md., and Lugene (Bill) Nigh of Bowie, Md.; son, Arthur “Chip” (Carolyn) Bibey of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a nephew, James Arbogast of Morgantown; and a niece, Cheryl Kerr-Dennis of Tasmania, Australia.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 3, 2012) at the Milhoan Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Dee Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell Cemetery, Milhoan Ridge, with full military honors. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood.
