Donald Andrew Williams

Donald Andrew Williams, 81, of Fairmont, died peacefully at home on Thursday (Nov. 8, 2012) after a brief illness.

He was born in Fairmont on March 2, 1931, a son of the late Onnie Andrew “Pete” and Beulah B. (Linn) Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Alice Keener-Williams. The couple was married on March 16, 2004.

Mr. Williams retired as a driver for Owens-Illinois, where he represented the Teamsters Union in negotiations for 20 years. He also retired from Overnight Transportation. Don received the Million Mile Safety Award. In his younger years, he drove for City Lines Bus in Fairmont.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Don was a longtime member of the former Christ United Methodist Church, now known as Gateway United Methodist Church. He served on the administrative board of the church and as a trustee.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He successfully earned his license to pilot a small aircraft. He also enjoyed spending time at his summer home at Rock Lake. He loved to travel and had been in all the states in the United States except Alaska.

Don was a member of the Fairmont Moose Lodge No. 9, the Fairmont BPO Elks No. 294 and the Fairmont East Lions Club and was active in the Democratic Men’s Organization.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Dennis Iracki of Perryville, Md.; two very special granddaughters, Tara Dawn and her husband Jamie Edwards of Baltimore and Jill Lynnette Iracki of Perryville, Md.; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Roy Gibson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Pasquariello and her husband Steve of Farmington; three nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Imogene “Jean” Williams in 1997.

Valerie Gittings officiating. Flag-folding honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Marion County Military Honor Guard and Camp Dawson. Interment will follow at the Glady Creek Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
