Albert “Al” Cameon, 85, of Mannington, passed away Monday (April 7, 2014) at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Carolina, son of the late Clyde and Maggie Cameon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice.
Al served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. He resided in Cleveland, Ohio, until his retirement. He then moved back to West Virginia and settled in Mannington with his wife Alice.
He is survived by two brothers, Peter Cameon of Clarksburg and Bill Cameon of Highland, Ind.; three sisters, Natalie Oliverio of East Chicago, Ind., Linda Cameon of Carolina and Virginia (Pat) Mezzanotte of Fairmont; and a sister-in-law, Frances Cameon of Carolina.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Cameon, Joe Cameon and Rudy Cameon.
The family would like express their appreciation to the staff at the VA Medical Center and his caregivers, Loretta and Tim Fury, Nicole Fluharty, Doris and Ed Gump for the care and compassion they gave to Al during his illness.
Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Scott Hall officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery with full military rites being conducted at graveside by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
