William P. Murray Jr., 86, of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2013) at the Louis A. Johnson Veteran’s Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Oct. 1, 1926. in Pueblo, Colo., son of the late William Sr. and Ellen (Holman) Murray.
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a fireman for the City of Fairmont with 26 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 629, former member of American Legion 408, Military Order of Cooties and the Military Veteran’s Council.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Myers) Murray; two sons, William P. Murray III of Reston, Va., and Thomas Murray and wife Linda of Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Beth Ann Hirschmann and husband Karl of Golden, Colo.; two grandchildren, Anna Hirschmann and Erik Hirschmann; one brother, Alfred Murray of Fairmont; three sisters, Rita Kominouski of Orlando, Fla., Verla Dupius of Las Vegas, and Phyllis Boehm of Spring Valley, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Donaldson and Norma Hamilton, both of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Harding and Mary Ellen Spenjak; one brother, Philip Murray; and five brothers-in-law, Leo Harding, Carl Spenjak, Jack Boehm, William Donaldson and Leonard Hamilton.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, with Deacon David Lester officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton with full military rites being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
