— John Thomas “Tommy” Noble, 85, of Fairmont, passed from this life peacefully Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2013) at Fitzwater’s Assisted Living after a brief illness.

Tommy was born in Fairmont on Feb. 2, 1928, to the late Linzy Edgar and Margaret Layman Noble.

After attending Fairmont Senior High School, Tommy enlisted in the U.S. Army. Later, he began working for Fairmont Machinery as a welder fabricator and retired with 43 years of service from FMC/Eimco. He was a member of The Baptist Temple and the BPOE Elks No. 294 in Fairmont.

In his younger years, Tommy enjoyed playing men’s softball, bowling and golf. In his later years, he enjoyed following professional golf on TV, as well as following Mountaineer football and basketball games.

Tommy is survived by his brother, Linzy Edgar Noble Jr.; and nieces, Deborah Haught Prezioso and husband Roman, who were his caregivers, Patti Jo Noble Satterfield and husband Rick, Mary Margaret Noble Bourne and husband Kevin, Sandra Noble Haun, Sharon Findley Warder and husband Fran; and a nephew, Mark Noble and wife Kathy, all of Fairmont. Also surviving are nieces, Linda Haught Straight and husband Stephen of Winchester, Va., Rita Haught Maxson of Bridgeport, and Cathy Haught Kelly of West Union; several great-nieces and -nephews; and special neighbors and friends, John, Janet and Jonnie Hinerman and Jack and Evelyn Bish also survive.

Preceeding him in death were his parents; his wife of 45 years, Freda Haught Noble; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ross and Ida Haught; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Betty Noble, Lawrence Haught, James and Dorotha Haught, Kenneth and Mildred Haught, Helen and Paul Findley; and a nephew, Allen Haught.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 10-11 a.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. today with Pastor Alan Rosenberger officiating. The Marion County Veterans will observe flag-folding services in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Menz, Dr. Tapia, the nurses and staff on 3B and the security staff of Fairmont General Hospital, Tim and Heather Fitzwater and the caring employees at Fitzwater’s Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice.
