Robert Joy Sr.

Robert Henry Joy Sr., 75, of Monongah, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 10, 2013), at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Monongah, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Falcone) Joy.

Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 152 for 46 years, and a member of the Mannington Moose. He was a West Virginia University football fan and enjoyed playing cards with his buddies at Meffe Tavern and cooking Sunday dinners for his family.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Joy and wife Alisa of Monongah, and Robert Joy and wife Mary Beth Taylor of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two brothers, Joseph Joy and wife Vicky, and Raymond Joy and wife Lois, all of Monongah; four grandchildren, Marissa Necole Joy, Michael David Joy, Devin Anthony Joy and Stephen Joy; two great-grandchildren, Anna Rose Joy and Nathanial James Joy; six nieces and nephews, Gina Joy Reyes, Joanna Joy Key, William Joy, Mary Jo Joy Lopez, Phillip Joy and Angie Joy; great-nephew, Xavier Lopez; and great-niece, Victoria Lopez. He is also survived by several very close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Joy.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., in Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
