Roy ‘Moe’ White

Roy Eugene “Moe” White, 79, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (April 25, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born in Thomas on Sept. 14, 1933, a son of the late Roy B. and Margaret White.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra “Sandy” Jean (Chrislip) White, in May 2005.

Roy proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a welder by trade. He was retired from Industrial Engineers in Fairmont with more than 25 years of service.

He was a member of VFW Post 629 and the Fairmont Moose Lodge. He enjoyed boating, watching television and tinkering with all kinds of items.

He is survived by four sons, William Dale White and his wife Pam, Richard White, Thomas “Tom” Edmond White and Jeffrey White, all of Fairmont; one daughter, Marjorie Jane White Oprey and her husband David of Arkansas; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, James White and his wife Amy of Belview, and Gary White and his wife Elaine of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister, Patty White of Youngstown, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Jessie White of Youngstown, Ohio.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Michael White; four brothers, Dick White, Larry White, Paul White and Don White; a sister, Wanda White; and a daughter-in-law, Rosetta White.

In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, has been entrusted with arrangements.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
