Margaret Vanover

Margaret Lopez Vanover, 90, passed away on Monday (May 6, 2013) at the home of her daughter in Lockport, N.Y.

She was born Feb. 20, 1923, in McKees Rocks, Pa., a daughter of the late Manuel Jack Lopez and Mary Pearl Garcia.

Margaret also was preceded in death by her husband, Argel Pat Vanover, who passed away Feb. 10, 2010.

Margaret is survived by her children, Pat Vanover Jr. and his wife Mary of Clarksburg, Gary Vanover and wife Helena of Melbourne, Fla., Vicki Vanover Windland and her husband Roger of London, Ohio, Terry Vanover and wife Lu Ann of Wilson, N.Y., and Ellen Vanover Burge and husband Clarence of Lockport N.Y.; also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Vanover was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Vanover Masters; a grandson, P.J. Windland; a great-granddaughter, Rae Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Jack and Keith Vanover.

Margaret loved to read. She also loved to sew.

Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 2 to 8 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
