Edna Valentine

Edna Frances Valentine, 91, of Rivesville (Pleasant View Community), passed away Thursday (Aug. 1, 2013) at Monongalia General Hospital.

She was born in Rivesville, on Oct. 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Harvey and Dorothy (Musgrave) Crouser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wayne Valentine, on Nov. 16, 2000.

Frances was a 1940 graduate of Fairview High School, a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. A World War II bride, Roy and Frances were married at Carthage, Mo., on June 16, 1943. They were married 57 years.

Roy was stationed at Camp Crowder, Mo. She worked in the alteration department at Hartley’s and then was secretary for R.W. Valentine Construction for 30 years.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joyce Valentine of Rivesville; a daughter, Nancy Harper and her husband David of Silver Spring, Md.; three grandsons, Brandon Valentine and his wife Rachele of Hedgesville, and Shane Valentine and Ryan Valentine of Rivesville; a great-grandson, Luca William Valentine, and great-granddaughter, Sophie Valentine of Hedgesville; a special friend, Reita Marks of Morgantown; a brother, Darwin Crouser and companion Carol of Cuyaga Falls, Ohio; a sister, Sue Shuster and her husband Ronald of Clarksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Crouser and his wife Marmel, and a sister, Doris Eckberg.

A special thanks to Dolly Lemmon and Deana Tedrow. Also to Nancy Sipes and the staff at Sipes Personal Care Home. And a very special thanks to Debbie Grubb, who was always there for Fran. Thanks to the many doctors who cared for her, Dr. Horan, Dr. Jabbour and the visits from Ron Allen, ophthalmic tech. Also thanks to the staff at Monongalia General Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Valentine’s memory to The Roy and Frances Valentine Family Scholarship Fund.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second St., Rivesville, today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Amanda Reed officiating. The committal service will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
