Gene Davis

Forrest Eugene “Gene” Davis, 87, of Summerton, S.C., died Friday (Aug. 2, 2013) in the Lake Marion Nursing Facility, Summerton, S.C.

He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Alva Davis and Ottie Messenger Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bennett Davis.

Mr. Davis is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ila Marie and Harry Courtney of Summerton, S.C.; two sons, Jim Davis of Canton, Mich., and Mark Davis of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Margie Stephens of Jamestown, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Aven Davis.

Gene was a retired flooring installer for 26 years in the Detroit, Mich., area. He was Church of God by faith and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

A graveside service will be held to celebrate Gene’s life at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pisgah Cemetery, Monongalia County, with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating. Military funeral honors will be recited in the cemetery by the Military Veterans Council of Marion County.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
