— Rolland Sylvester Howard, 58, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday (June 2, 2013) in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 12, 1954, in Fairmont, son of the late Nathan B. Hale Sr. and the late Evelyn Howard Drake.

Rolland graduated from Fairmont Senior High School, Class of 1972, and was a former member of the Magnificent Souls Motorcycle Club. He truly enjoyed life, spending time with his family and friends, always telling jokes and making those around him laugh. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Knicks and WVU Mountaineers. He also loved singing, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Rhonda Lynn Howard; two children, Rolland Jovaughn Howard and his companion Dana Holland of Fairmont, and Courtney Chavaghn Howard and wife Jolene, also of Fairmont; four brothers, Nathan B. Hale Jr. and wife Mary of Connecticut, Austin Drake of Akron, Ohio, Berry Drake of Fairmont, and Greg Drake of Seattle; three sisters, Vivian Parker and husband Arthur of Fairmont, Mildred Blackman of Fairmont, and Karen Drake of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jahlil Howard, Cassandra Howard, Nirel Brown-Hamlet and Nasir Brown-Hamlet; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Drake; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Howard; his paternal grandparents, the Rev. Brotop and Jane Hale; a brother-in-law, Booker Blackman; a sister-in-law, Toni Drake; and one aunt, Marjorie Howard.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice Care for providing such wonderful and professional care for their loved one.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, from 3-8 p.m. Sunday. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until noon Monday at Morningstar Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at noon Monday in the church with the Rev. Wesley Dobbs officiating. Rolland has chosen cremation as his final disposition.
