Elizabeth McCue

Elizabeth Mae McCue, 76, of Barrackville, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 27, 2013), at Ruby Memorial Hospital, with loving members of her family at her side.

She was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Toothman’s Run, Marion County, a daughter of the late Otto Lawrence Wells and Eva Opal Morgan Wells.

She is survived by her loving husband, Carl William McCue Sr.

Mrs. McCue was a former operator for C&P Telephone Co. and retired as the chief switchboard operator at Fairmont General Hospital in 2003. She was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church and a 1955 graduate of Fairview High School. Elizabeth loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and always enjoyed preparing Sunday dinner. She also enjoyed traveling and spending the winter months with her husband in St. Augustine, Fla.

Mrs. McCue is survived by her husband, Carl William McCue Sr.; two sons, Carl McCue and his wife Lori of Morgantown, and Mike McCue of Fairmont and his companion Nancy Vandergrift; two daughters, Rhonda Yost and her husband Dennis of Monumental Community, and Valerie Hamilton and her husband Greg of Monumental Community; three sisters, Eleanor Drews of Virginia Beach, Va., Patty Marshall and her husband Jay of Salem, Ind., and Edythe Tennant of Daybrook; four grandchildren, Luke Yost and his wife Andi of Morgantown, Mattie Conklin and her husband Brody of Morgantown, Mariah Carpenter and her husband Thomas of Monongahela, Pa., and Megan Beerbower and her husband Harold III of Fairmont; one great-grandchild, Olivia Raschella of Fairmont; and soon to be two more great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Firklay; and an infant brother.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday with Mr. Richard Marlowe officiating. A graveside service will follow at Monumental Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
