Clarence “Ike” Vandergrift

Clarence “Ike” Vandergrift, 78, of Meadland Community, Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 13, 2013) at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Marion County on Feb. 23, 1935, a son of the late Leonard and Grace Pauline (Biddle) Vandergrift.

He enjoyed cutting firewood and using a weed eater.

He is survived by one sister, Helen Little and her husband Gary of Meadland Community; three brothers, Tommy Vandergrift of Meadland Community, Avery Vandergrift and his wife Charlotte of Pruntytown, and Leonard “Darrell” Vandergrift and his wife Pam of Valley Falls; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna May Vandergrift.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday with Pastor Alan Rosenberger officiating. Interment will follow at Janes Memorial Cemetery in Taylor County.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
