Louise Bonnette

Louise Olive (Carpenter) Toothman Bonnette, 99, of Kingwood (formerly of Fairmont), passed away Friday (Oct. 4, 2013) at Heartland of Preston County in Kingwood.

She was born in Fairmont on April 7, 1914, a daughter of the late Floyd L. and Lula (Baker) Carpenter.

She was retired from the Marion County Board of Education, where she was an elementary school teacher, teaching at Mudlick, Mt. Nebo and Fleming schools. She was a graduate of Barrackville High School and Fairmont State College, where she received her degree after having started her college education at the age of 43 after the death of her first husband, William.

She was a longtime member of Diamond Street Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the United Methodist Women. In 1997, she moved to Kingwood, moving her church membership to Wesley United Methodist Church.

During her time in Fairmont, she enjoyed volunteering many hours at Fairmont General Hospital, of which she was very proud. She was actively involved with the East Side Lionesses, YWCA and the United Methodist Women of Diamond Street Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, William Donald Toothman of Phoenix, Ariz., and David Lee Toothman and his wife Karen of Kingwood; six grandchildren, Jeremy Toothman and his wife Rebecca of Atlanta, Ga., Laura Riddle and her husband Wesley of Pensacola, Fla., and Chris, Toni, Paula and Lora of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William C. Toothman in 1956; her second husband, Emery V. Bonnette in 1992; a son, John Thomas Toothman in infancy; a brother, James Joseph Carpenter; and a sister, Opal Delligatti.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.

The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Heartland of Preston County and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond St., Fairmont, WV 26554.
