Donald Bailey

Donald Clayton Bailey, 80, of Clarksburg, died Monday (Oct. 7, 2013) at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born June 13, 1933, in Clarksburg, son of the late Congressman Cleveland Monroe and Maude Agatha Rigby Bailey.

He graduated from Charleston High School, Morris Harvey College and George Washington College in Washington, D.C., was retired from the West Virginia Division of Highways in Charleston as a planning director, was in the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army, collected coins and stamps, was a Civil War buff, loved WVU football and basketball, fan of St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Redskins fan, and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna K. and Larry Scott of Gaston, S.C., Alicia Suzanne and Troy Helmick of Kingwood, and Linda Rae Cross of Clarksburg; seven grandchildren, Sarah Scott, Noah Scott, Jacob and wife Jennifer Helmick, Miles Helmick, Jennifer Wood, Bethany Wood and Bailey Wood; three great-grandchildren, Alayna, Gabriella and Hayden; sister, Wanda Dibble of California; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joselyn, Jared and Ansel Bailey; and two sisters, Audrey and Agatha.

The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday from the chapel of Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Masonic Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army.

Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and honored to be serving the Bailey family.
