Paula Young

Paula “Polly June” Young, 83, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (Oct. 25, 2013) at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born in Marion County on March 31, 1930, a daughter of the late Leonard and Daisy Belle (Moore) Satterfield.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Joseph “Stormy” Young, on Aug. 26, 1970.

Paula was a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. In her earlier years, she worked at Owens-Illinois and also as an upholsterer for Fabric and Foam in Fairmont. She was a very talented seamstress, and that talent was her true calling in life. She enjoyed listening to country music.

She is survived by one son, Marshall Alan Young and his companion Ronna Carpenter of Fairmont; one daughter, Cleta Sue Kovach Wilson and her husband Roland of Fairmont; and two grandchildren, David Ott and Valerie Ott.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Monday, with Bishop Gaylen Hansen and Bishop David Frame officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
