Donald “Don” Ray Conrad, 76, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (Nov. 1, 2013) at Fairmont General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Winchester, Va., on Jan. 27, 1937, a son of the late Hoy “Jake” and Freda Mae (Minigh) Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Eileen (Snoderly) Conrad, on April 11, 2012.
Donald proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was a meat cutter and butcher by trade, working at the former Warehouse Grocery Store in Fairmont. He was a member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ and the VFW. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his pet dogs, Kateigh and Spunky, and his cat, Karen.
He is survived by one daughter, Sara Downey and her husband Gregg of Fairmont; one son, Jason M. Conrad and his wife Connie of Morgantown; and four grandchildren, Logan Scott Conrad, Austin Troy Conrad, Tyler Downey and Leeanna Downey.
Also surviving is a brother, William “Bill” Conrad and his wife Althea of Fairmont; and two nephews, Jeff Conrad and Steve Conrad.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Brent Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont, where flag-folding honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
