Consuello Phillips

Martha Consuello (Summers) Phillips, lovingly known as “Connie” or “Aunt Cot,” 85, of Morgantown, formerly of Fairmont, went to be with her Lord on Sunday (Nov. 10, 2013), surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter in Greenville, S.C.

She was born in Catawba on April 3, 1928, as the eighth of nine children to the late William Lindsay Summers and Florence (Swisher) Summers.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John Paul Phillips, in July 1995.

She was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother whose family and church were the focus of her life. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Morgantown. She enjoyed extending hospitality to family, friends, visiting evangelists and missionaries demonstrating her philosophy that “food is love.” After the death of her husband, winters were spent in South Carolina with her daughters, but West Virginia remained “home.”

She is survived by two sons, John Paul Phillips II of Orlando, Fla., and Stephen Ison Phillips and his wife Sherry of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Paula Phillips and Susan Phillips Johnson and her husband Daniel, all of Greenville, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Amy Shannon Ketcham, Ashley Johnson Taylor and her husband Chris, Paul Stephen Phillips, Mandy Casey, Brandy Andrews, Kyle Tindol and Dylan Tindol.

Also surviving is a brother, Darwin “Dot” Summers of Fairmont, and many loving extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Summers, Wayne Summers, Daryl Summers, Harrison “Bud” Summers and William “Bill” Summers; her sister, Florence Emogene Tucker; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Summers.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 4-9 p.m. today, and at Faith Baptist Church, 809 Greenbag Road, Morgantown, from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Bennie Moran officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, 809 Greenbag Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.carpenterandford.com.
