Frances Vincent

Frances R. Vincent, 92, of Fairmont, passed from this life Sunday (Nov. 10, 2013) at Fitzwater’s Personal Care Home, where she had been a guest for several years.

She was born in Monongah on Oct. 4, 1921, a daughter of the late John and Antonia Zuzak Rajs.

Frances was a Christian and member of the former Diamond Street United Methodist Church. She was formerly a school teacher at both Fairview and Barrackville high schools. She attained her master’s degree in social services from WVU in 1991 then worked and retired from the West Virginia DHHR as a social worker. She was a 50-year member of the CEOS Crossroads, 16 years at Crossroads Community Center and belonged to the Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed swimming, sewing, shopping, gardening both flowers and vegetables, reading and traveling. She had attended the New York Worlds Fair in 1964. She also enjoyed watching news broadcasts and especially enjoyed “60 Minutes.”

Mrs. Vincent is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Patricia Vincent of Fairmont; her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Carl Eddy of Bluffton S.C.; and four grandchildren, Benjamin Vincent, Mary Elliott and husband Brian, Jonathan Eddy and Taylor Eddy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Rufus Glen Vincent, on Oct. 5, 1993; one brother, Rolo Richard Rajs; and two sisters, Sophia Baughman and Jean “Honey” Blumeto.

Frances’ family would like to say a special “Thank You” to both the management and staff of Fitzwater’s and the special people of Hospice Care for all the long-term love and care they have shown their mother over the years.

Friends may call at Frey Home For Funerals (Historic Chapel), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, from 5-7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow in Vincent Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
