The Rev. Bill L. Withers

FAIRMONT — The Rev. Bill L. Withers, 79, of Fayetteville, went to be with his heavenly father on Friday (Nov. 26, 2010), comfortably at his home with his family after a long illness.

Born Oct. 12, 1931 at Fairview, he was the son of the late Gordon L. and Hazel Pearl Cowell Withers.

The Rev. Withers was a retired Baptist minister. “Preacher Bill” and Cora served the Lord together for more than 40 years in West Virginia churches. He was the pastor emeritus of Fayetteville Baptist Church and was past president of the West Virginia Baptist Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert G. Withers and Richard E. Withers.

Surviving are his dedicated and loving wife of 55 years, Cora Alice Osburn Withers of Fayetteville; his son, David L. Withers and his wife Barbara of Huntington; and his three daughters, Rebecca Rector and her husband Timothy of Beckley, Bethanie Wood and her husband Robert of Saginaw, Mich., and Amanda Wood and her husband Gregory of Cool Ridge. Also surviving are his 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services of celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Fayetteville Baptist Church, 104 Ankrom St., Fayetteville, with Pastor Ron George Jr., Pastor David Sneed and Pastor Harry Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The Rev. and Mrs. Withers’ 10 grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at Fayetteville Baptist Church from 6 to 9 p.m. today and also one hour prior to services Monday.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to West Virginia Baptist Camp (at Cowen) through West Virginia Baptist Convention, P.O. Box 1019, Parkersburg, WV 26102.
