Mary Orr

Mary Etta (Rogers) Orr passed away on Friday (Aug. 16, 2013) at home.

She was born on June 28, 1925, the youngest child of the late Alden Clinton and Laura Lodge Rogers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Howard L. Orr; three brothers, Raymond Rogers of Pruntytown, Alden Clifford Rogers and Morgan Ross (Todge) Rogers, both of Bridgeport; a sister, Jessie (Post) Carder of Clarksburg; and an infant grandson, Michael Allen Faris of Nashville.

She is survived by four daughters, Etta Zasloff from Hope Valley, R.I., Anna Bronsak and husband Mark, with whom she resided, Edith (Edie) Amerando and husband Leonard from Clemmons, N.C., and Robin Faris of Flemington; seven grandchildren, Julie Zasloff Lindstrom (Casey) and Zachary Zasloff (Lori) of Boston, Megan Enke Copley (Bart) of Barboursville, Melissa Enke Perkins (Matt) of Quiet Dell, Chelsea Amerando Newman (Dustin) of Clemmons, N.C., Scott Faris of Denver, and Tyler Faris of Pensacola. Mary was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Evan James Lindstrom, Emily Louise Lindstrom, Ethan Howard Copley, Abigail McKenzie Zasloff, Izzy Marie Newman, Ella Grace Copley, William Jennings Perkins and Maxwell Frank Zasloff.

Her family was her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, cooking large meals, camping, special trips with her daughters and teaching the grandchildren how to play dominos and cards.

Mary had wonderful friends in all aspects of her life and made an effort to keep up with all of them: neighbors, friends from her work life as secretary of Bridgeport High School and ones she graduated with from BHS in 1943, Holiday Rambler friends and Simpson Creek Baptist Church friends. Her life was filled with nourishing friendships and taking care of family.

Gardening was her favorite hobby, and she was happy getting her hands in the dirt and watching things grow and produce.

Mary was a West Virginia Business College graduate and worked as a legal secretary in the office of the Harrison County prosecutor, as an executive secretary at Aeromech Inc., and as Bridgeport High School secretary (1967-1986).

Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. The funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Condolences may be extended to the family at or to Amedisys Hospice Care, Suite 102, Anmoore, WV 26323.

The Orr family has entrusted the care and arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
