Edith “Edie” L. Edwards, 71, of Baxter, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning (Aug. 18, 2013), at Genesis Fairmont Campus Tygart Center surrounded by her family.
She was born March 26, 1942, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Ernest A. and Erma V. McElroy Tobin.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of Highlawns United Methodist Church in Rivesville. She also was an active member of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU).
She was a homemaker and very much enjoyed bowling, crocheting, collecting coins and spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Donnie Jr. and Hope Edwards of Rivesville; a daughter and her husband, Rene and Raymond McCartney of Fairmont; eight grandchildren, Charmaine, Anthony, Chandler and Amber Edwards, all of Scotland, S.D., Joshua and Madison Edwards of Rivesville, Nate McCartney of Fairmont and Kenny Edwards Jr. of Bridgeport; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Tobin of Narrows, Va., and Patricia Tobin of Barrackville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie J. Edwards Sr., who died in 2008; one son, Kenny Edwards Sr., who died in 1993; one grandchild, Angela Edwards, who died in 1992; three brothers, James Tobin, who died in 2006, Melvin Tobin, who died in 2007, and Virgil Tobin, who died in 2012; and one sister, Louella Hoult, who died in 2010.
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Second and Jasper streets, Rivesville, from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Ted Hinzman officiating. A committal service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
