Betty Toothman

Betty Jean O’Dell Toothman, 85, of Patterson Road, near Shinnston, passed away Sunday (Aug. 18, 2013) at United Hospital Center.

She was born March 5, 1928, at Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Finley and Myrtle O’Dell.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Ann Summers of Boothsville; her granddaughter, Reneen Ann Summers McIntire and her fiancé Brian Cochran of Worthington; two grandsons, Verl Loye Yost and his wife Lori, and Richard Emmett Summers, all of North Carolina; two great-grandsons, James and Matthew McIntire; and three great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Isabella and Jaxon McIntire.

Betty was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Richard Toothman; four sisters; and four brothers.

Betty was retired from Anchor Hocking Glass Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Shinnston, the Shinnston Woman’s Club, the Shinnston Senior Citizens and the Pythian Sisters of Fairmont. She was a former member of the Wyatt Rebekah Lodge, and later Shinnston Rebekah Lodge.

Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Kevin Nuzum officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
