Franklin Blazek

Franklin Delano Blazek, 73, of Vienna, passed away Friday (Aug. 23, 2013), at Camden Clark Medical Center-St. Joseph’s Campus.

He was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Fairmont, the youngest child of the late Joseph Paul and Mary Elizabeth (Semancik) Blazek.

He graduated in 1957 from St. Peters School in Fairmont, and in 1961 from Wheeling University.

He taught for five years at Van Devender Junior High and had worked 29 years for St. Joseph Hospital. He attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where he worked at the food pantry, and volunteered at Good Samaritan Food Pantry at Wayside United Methodist Church for the past 17 years. He raised tomatoes to share with neighbors and he liked to fish. He loved his cats.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joy Ellen Parsons Blazek, whom he married June 15, 1964, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. They had no children of their own, but have three very special nieces, Rita Ann Stephens of Beverly, Ohio, Ingrid Hudnall of Fayetteville and Joy Davis of Oak Hill; and three precious little girls, Lilly, Lila and Layla Davis, who called him Uncle Pappy. Other survivors are sisters, Barbara Adams of Fairmont and Margaret Tennant of Benton, Ill., and brothers, Thomas Blazek of Milford, Conn., and Alfred Blazek of Cleveland, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Travis Parsons of Edmond, Okla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward Blazek, Mary Hawkins and Joseph Blazek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father John Rice as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a wake service at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Good Samaritan Center (Food Pantry), 3001 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, WV 26105; or the Humane Society of Parkersburg, P.O. Box 392, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
