Rex Arnold Brewer, 90, of Fairmont, departed this life Thursday (Aug. 29, 2013), at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born May 20, 1923, at Big Run in Wetzel County, a son of the late John Henry and Anna Willey Brewer.
He joined the CCC before entering the Army and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII and achieved the rank of master sergeant. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
Rex was a former heavy equipment operator and superintendent for C & C Coal Co. He was also a former employee of Harmon Construction Co. in Grafton.
Rex was also a member of Monumental United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandsons at his camp in Wetzel County. He also had a fabulous sense of humor.
Survivors are his wife of 66 years. Virginia Yoho Brewer; two daughters and one son-in-law; Charlotte and Edward Wolfe and Bonnie Brown, all of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Kimberly Biszantz, James Wolfe, Jason Brown, Tami Ranallo and Timothy Wolfe, nine great grandchildren; Catlin Garrett, Drake Burns, Tyson Wolfe, Treston Brown, Talissa Wolfe, Hannah Brown, Tresalyn Wolfe, Nicole Biszantz and Conrad Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; one grandson, Joey Brown; three brothers, Charles, Virgil and Bruce Brewer; and three sisters, Alice Watson, Daisy LeMasters and Elsie Church.
Friends may call at the Frey Home for Funerals (Historic Chapel) from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Frey Home for Funerals with Pastor Janice Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Monumental Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Marion County Veterans Council.
