Kenneth Murphey

Kenneth Allen Murphey, 57, passed peacefully in his sleep in his childhood home in New Castle, Pa., on Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2013).

He is preceded in death by his sister, Karen Colich, and his brother, Gary Murphey. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, James and Beverley Murphey; brother, Jimmy Murphey; sister, Debby Harper; mother of his children, Michelle Murphey; sons, K.W. (Rebecca) Murphey and Corey Murphey; daughters, Natashia (Creighton) Ryan and Kalee Murphey; grandchildren, Austin, Avery, Owen, Emersen, Gavin and Alaina; and eight nieces and nephews.

Kenny was born in New Castle, Pa., on Sept. 6, 1955. In 1973, he graduated from New Castle High School.

He attended college at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., In 1980, he moved to Fairmont, where he spent most of his life. He was currently residing with his mother and sister in Jackson, Tenn.

Kenny won many awards in wrestling and boxing. He even won a fight against Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini before Mancini’s pro career began.

He was a great painter who took pride in a job well done. His company, Murph Co. Paint and Paper, was recognized by many in the community for the high standards and excellent workmanship he provided.

He enjoyed football, poker, gardening, fishing, coaching youth wrestling and spending time with his family and friends.

The visitation will be held at Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pa., on Monday between 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday between 9-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held at Cunningham Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roy Weese officiating. Interment will be at Savannah Methodist Cemetery, 84 Gardner Road, New Castle, Pa.
