Sigley finds success at plate for Huskies

FAIRMONT — Hitting cleanup is no easy task, but North Marion’s Amanda Sigley made it look like it was this past week.

The senior first baseman finished up her final week of the 2014 regular season on top, leading the Huskies to a 17-3 overall record and a Big 10 championship.

At the plate, Sigley picked up six hits over the week.

Last Saturday, Sigley produced four hits in a doubleheader for the Huskies, including a triple. She came back at it after almost a week of layoffs due to rain and pounded out two more hits in a 10-0 rout of Robert C. Byrd on Friday.

In Friday night’s game, her would-be two-run triple was ultimately ruled an RBI‚Äądouble after she drove in the 10th run for the Huskies with the second run not counting.

Nonetheless, Sigley went 2-for-3 in the game.

For her strong performance, Sigley was voted this week’s I-79 Joe Romeo’s Times West Virginian high school player of the week and will receive a coupon for a free appetizer from Applebee’s of Fairmont.
