The Composites Technician will engage in research and development of advanced structural composite materials, perform classroom and one-on-one training for small and large groups and perform equipment maintenance following ISO 9000 quality documented procedures. Responsibilities include assisting clients and RCBI staff with job setup on machines; assisting with troubleshooting and repair equipment problems; maintaining documented shop inventories; general cleaning; assisting RCBI staff in layout of client manufacturing processes, helping accomplish RCBI goals and performing other assigned duties. Qualifications: Individual must have a high school education and/or an equivalent AS degree or post-secondary training at a certified technical institute. Must have a minimum of 5 years of composites-manufacturing experience. Experience in and/or knowledge of tooling, mandrels and fixtures for lay-up. Ability to fabricate materials into composite parts and assemblies using pre-preg and wet lay-up techniques and various required materials. Perform bonding operations using weight and mix procedures for resins and adhesives. Program computer-controlled ovens, hot presses and autoclaves to properly cure composites. Test and maintain vacuum valves and hoses for autoclave processes. Knowledge of filament winding a plus. In addition, provide training to others as required. Excellent organizational skills and strong oral, written and interpersonal communications skills are required. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently to fulfill duties and responsibilities, and must demonstrate a high degree of initiative as well as the ability to work as part of the statewide RCBI team.
