Connie Ahrens knows a good thing when she sees it.
Like the refreshing broccoli salad she’s almost required to take to any gathering.
A unique combination of broccoli, peas and ramen noodles, it won her first place in the August “My Favorite Recipe” cook-off.
She was at a Mountainaires Chorus picnic when she tasted a salad someone had brought in.
“I fell in love with the salad. It was different. It had a crunch. It was a good picnic salad. You expect the everlasting potato salad. After it’s been out for a while, you have to be careful about the mayonnaise. This salad was light and crisp and tangy and not heavy.
