Hayes sets new invitational record

FAIRMONT — Tony Hayes had a week to remember for the East Fairmont boys’ cross country team.

Hayes took first place in the Maryland Track N Trail Invitational, setting the course record at 15:40.

The record time is the second-fastest time posted in East Fairmont cross country history. The fastest time is held by Tyler Devault, who posted a time of 15:35 in 2001.

With his strong performance, Hayes carried the Bees to 10th overall during the event.

Because of his efforts, Hayes is this week’s Times West Virginian Multi-Media Good Sports Player of the Week.

The Bees will head to the Philip Barbour Invitational on Tuesday. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
