Huskies edge rival Bees, 36-35

PLEASANT VALLEY — In a tuneup for this weekend’s Winners Choice tournament, North Marion got the upper hand over host East Fairmont Tuesday night with a tight, hard-fought 36-35 victory.

The Huskies, who dealt the second-ranked Bees just their 11th dual loss all season, powered past their county rivals.

Literally.

Of No. 5 North’s six victories on the night, four came via pin.

At 126 pounds, Huskies’ standout Ryan Elliott continued his successful season by pinning Nathan Poll in 18 seconds.

Austin Stanley notched a fall at 138, needing just 20 seconds to close things out, and Gavin Barker (160) and Anthony Tiano (170) also added pins to help the North cause.

Joe Efaw (106) and Tanner Hayes (120) each had forfeit wins for the Huskies.

For East, Jesse Roman continued his stellar senior year with a 10-0, major-decision win over Alec Moscufo at 220 pounds. Roman had wrestled most of the season down a weight class at 195.

Packee Sacks (113), Cole Valentine (182) and Logan Bowman (285) each had falls for the Bees on Tuesday. Sacks’ pin came 41 seconds into his match.

At 132, East’s Brody Nesselrotte rolled past Ryan Arnett for an 8-2 decision. The two were ranked fifth and fourth, respectively, in Class AA-A heading into the match.

Dalton Michael (145), Cameron Stewart (152) and Garrett Onderko (195) each added wins on the evening for the Bees.

Both East and North will take part in the annual Winners Choice tournament, which gets under way on Friday at the Woody Williams Armory.
