East Side versus West Side. Polar Bears against Bees. It is always a heated rivalry in any sport when these county schools meet.
And Fairmont Senior's 51-26 victory over host East Fairmont in girls’ hoops action Saturday night not only swept the two-game regular season series and earned bragging rights, but it also secured a second consecutive county title put the Polar Bears in the driver’s seat when it comes to upcoming sectional play.
“This win was big for us in many ways,” Fairmont Senior coach Corey Hines said. “It should put us in a number one seed in the sectionals, even though the seedings are based on votes. But, we won other county championship with this win too, which I am proud of our girls. Our county games are never easy. It’s tough to play at North (Marion), and we have friends playing against friends here. So, I am hoping this win can carry us through a tough three games this week coming up.”
