FAIRMONT — With only one move made in this week’s West Virginia boys’ basketball poll released by the Associated Press Monday, little noise has been made. Here’s this week’s breakdown:

LOOKING BACK: Four boys’ teams in the state played one game this past week with all of the snowy conditions cancelling or postponing action around the state. Wyoming East throttled Independence by a score of 112-53. Poca toppled Sissonville, 79-47. Chapmanville lost to Wayne, 62-59 in overtime. And Roane County beat Webster County, 74-64. The other teams in the state were either idle for the week or were snowed out.

STAYING THE SAME: Only one move happened this week but even it wasn’t major. With Chapmanville’s loss, they moved from a tie for fifth to a tie for sixth. The move gave Westside complete control of the number five spot while moving Bridgeport into a tie for sixth place. From there, Robert C. Byrd remains perfect and at the top spot with Bluefield, Wyoming East, Poca and Westside rounding out the top five in that order. After Bridgeport and Chapman-ville, Liberty (Raleigh), Fairmont Senior and Roane County finish off the top ten. Fairmont Senior is still the only school in the rankings to have a losing record at 4-5, but the Polar Bears still have time to improve upon that mark.

BIG 10 MAINTAINING GROUND: RCB still sits atop the statewide poll, giving the Big 10 some bragging rights. Bridgeport and Fairmont Senior give the Big 10 Conference three representatives in the top 10 of the rankings. Fairmont Senior took RCB into triple overtime two weeks ago, while they beat Bridgeport to earlier in the season. These three teams have shown the depth of the Big 10 so far this season.

BIG MATCHUPS: Speaking of Big 10 matchups, No. 9 Fairmont Senior will play No. 6 Bridgeport on Wednesday of this week, a seemingly must-win for the Polar Bears to stay in the top 10. No. 5 Poca will play Class A No. 3 Charleston Catholic and No. 6 Chapmanville this week.
