The Mountain East Conference schedule is heating up for Fairmont State.
Two days after traveling to the University of Charleston, the Falcons are back in action today against another MEC foe in West Virginia State.
The women’s game tips off at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
The Lady Falcons, who are coming off a thrilling overtime victory on Thursday, are tied with West Virginia State at 2-1 in the conference, though the Yellow Jackets (5-2) have won one more game than Fairmont State (4-2).
The game may turn into strength vs. strength. The Lady Yellow Jackets boast the highest field-goal percentage in the conference at 48.2 percent, while Fairmont State is holding opponents to a league-best 35.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the Fairmont State men’s team (3-2, 1-2 MEC) is looking to rebound after a 75-71 defeat on Thursday. West Virginia State (1-3, 0-3 MEC) enters the contest tied for last in the conference.
The Yellow Jackets rank near the bottom of the conference in several statistical categories. They are last in points allowed per game (96.8), 3-point defense (39.6 percent), and turnover margin (-4.75).
However, the Yellow Jackets do boast two noteworthy individual players in Anton Hutchins and Terry Wood.
Hutchins, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard, is leading the conference with 21.8 points per game. On the other end of the floor, his teammate Wood is leading the conference with 3.25 blocks per game.
