Speeding ahead: VIDEO AND PHOTOS

Polar Bears zoom past Grafton, 73-53

FAIRMONT — Being in the Fairmont Senior basketball system for three years running, point guard Jarin Hilson knows what ignites the Polar Bears.

That would be defense. And when the Polar Bears play “D” as they’ve done for much of this season, good things are bound happen.

“In transition, our defense is what starts our offense,” Hilson, the team’s star junior said. “If we don’t defend down here, we don’t score. That’s how we get our points.”

And that’s how Fairmont Senior got most of its points Thursday at the Woody Williams Armory, getting defense and showing off its speed on the other end in a 73-53 victory over visiting Grafton.

The win bumps the Polar Bears over .500 at 4-3 and helps ease the sting of a tough loss at Wyoming East last week.

Thursday’s game also displayed what Fairmont Senior can do when the defense is making stops and the offense is making shots.
