The East Fairmont High School boys’ track team rolled past its competition over the weekend as it earned a third-place spot in the Ryan Jobes Spring Special.
During the top-5 performance, East tallied a 66 total team score, falling just short of the title.
Ritchie County placed first with a score of 126, while Williamstown placed second with a team score of 98.
The Bees were led by a slew of runners who helped place the top spot, beginning with Cody Palmer, who leveled his competition in the 100-meter dash. During his run, Palmer tallied a third spot with a time of 11.71.
He wasn’t done there. In the relays, he helped his teammates gain another third spot in both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay.
In the 4x100, Brett Metheny, David Wadsworth, Cody Wilson and Palmer placed third with a time of 47.66. In the 4x200, Metheny, Wadsworth, Wilson and Palmer placed third at 1:37.96.
In the 4x400 relay, William Hayes, Wadsworth, Wilson and Drew Arnett were able to plunge a two spot with a time of 3:42.98.
Frederick Vincent tallied a third spot in the 110-meter hurdles at 18.36 and then placed third in the 300-meter hurdles at 42.90.
Levi Perkins placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.18.
In the 4x800-meter relay, Drew Arnett, Jack DeVault, Vincent and Hayes placed third, 8:56.89; and in the 4x110-meter shuttle hurdle, Vincent, Perkins, Patrick Friend and Austin Young tallied a fifth spot, 1:13.92.
Drew Arnett placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.36; Hayes tallied a fourth spot in the 1,600-meter run, 4:45.48; and DeVault placed ninth in the 3,200-meter run, 11:07.05.
