East Fairmont High School’s girls’ softball team hit its way past Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday afternoon, 7-3.
The Bees were led by Hannah Ferrell and Kayla Summers.
Ferrell went 3-4, tallying two doubles, and Summers drilled a home run, accumulating two hits on the night.
“The top of our lineup is really stringing hits together, which is helping us produce runs and it gives our pitchers some support so they can relax a little bit and pitch with the lead,” East head coach John Postlewait said. “That’s always easier as a pitcher to go out with a lead.”
On the mound was the Bees’ sure-handed pitcher Ashley Martin. Martin went the distance, earning the win. She accumulated seven strikeouts, giving up four hits and three runs.
Applying the rest of the offense for the Bees were Tori Postlewait, who went 1-2; Cassidy Toothman, 1-3 and scored a run; Ashley Martin, 1-3 and scored a run; Mikayla Moore, 1-4 with two RBIs and scored a run; and Leeanna Downey, 1-3 with an RBI and scored a run.
