Polar Bears out of playoff contention

FAIRMONT — It’s bad news for the Polar Bears.

On Monday, the Secondary Schools Activities Commission ruled in favor of Elkins, reinstating the forfeited games in favor of the Fighting Tigers.

This took the 0-9 forfeited record and swapped it back to Elkins’ original record of 7-2, pushing them back into the playoff hunt.

As for Fairmont Senior, this reinstatement put the kibosh on their hopes of making the playoffs.

Now, instead of being above .500, the Polar Bears find themselves hoping to meet the standard they set a year ago, which is a record of 5-5.

Only one thing stands in their way, just like last year — East Fairmont.

The East Fairmont, Fairmont Senior and North Marion girls’ volleyball teams are set for sectional play today at Oak Glen High School beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Fairmont Senior and North Marion are set to toe the line in the first game, while East is competing against Weir.

The winner of the North-West game will play the winner of East-Weir at 8:30 p.m. today.
