Dim the lights — Marion County has four wrestling state champions.
Over the season, hundreds of wrestlers were going toe-to-toe in order to be crowned a state champion and four area wrestlers were able to accomplish that feat on the big stage at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington on Saturday.
As the cameras flashed, as the sweat was dripping, Ryan Elliott, Anthony Alvaro, Garrett Onderko and Jesse Roman are able to say that they are now the best in West Virginia.
The last time Marion County produced a slew of wrestlers like this was in 2008 when four local athletes brought home titles.
Roman, who finished his senior season unbeaten at 54-0, joined Tyler Parker of Greenbrier West and Cody Goff of Grafton in a three-way tie as the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.
