Bears looking for title

FAIRMONT — Play ball.

Those are the words that Fairmont Senior head baseball coach Steve Naternicola and the rest of the Polar Bears boys’ baseball team can’t wait to hear in the 2013 season.

A little over nine months ago, the Polar Bears lost a thriller against Nitro in the Class AAA semifinals in Charleston, 10-8.

“We’ve been runner-up six times and it’s kind of nice, but it’s not nice to the seniors,” Naternicola said. “I feel for them every year. Those kids have donated four years of their life to win a state championship, and it seems like I let them down.”

This time, the Polar Bears have a new batch of seniors that will try to do something FSHS has never done in the history of its program — win a state championship.
